Maren Morris released a new song with a music video to go along titled "Better Than We Found It," and it's quite the powerful piece. It's written by Morris, Jessie Jo Dillon, Laura Veltz, and Jimmy Robbins.
The song dives into the current issues happening in the United States, and it doesn't hold back. Morris demands social change and requests that rather than take a back seat, instead take a stand and help make the world "better than we found it." Toward the end of the song, Morris speaks to her 6-month old son, Hayes, singing "I hope my son is proud of the woman I was," implying she will do everything in her power to contribute to solving these issues.
A portion of the proceeds from the song are being donated to the Black Women's Health Imperative. If you haven't watched the video or heard the song, be sure to check it out here.
"I wanted to write something to address exactly how I feel right now. It's a protest song - it's the most American thing to protest and protest songs have been so embedded in American culture: Bob Dylan, Nina Simone. I think the world right now is sort of in a perpetual mourning period and I wanted to have a song that had weight but also had hope." - Maren Morris
